Unusual-335

This is a 17 year cicada. They supposedly rear their ugly heads every 17 years after emerging from underground. There are little holes in the ground all over and
their shell carcases are littering all the trees and fence posts everywhere you look.
I found this guy just hanging out on a leaf. They sing very loudly during the day, all day. Which must be deafening in the middle of the forest.

I've often heard about them but never seen one close up. Thanks for showing us!

I've heard of these, but I skipped looking at the pics (I already watched a movie with cockroaches in today, that was enough for one day ;0)).

Ewwwwwww. One reason I'm glad I don't live in the US - you have worse bugs than we do! (and cockroaches).
